The most prevalent online payment method in Europe is credit and debit cards (36.8%). Alternative payment methods (34%) are hot on their heels and bank transfers come third (22%).


Unlike any other region, eCommerce accounts for more than half (51%) of total retail sales in APAC. Nearly eight out of ten consumers (78.6%) prefer alternative payments and eWallets for their online payments. 


Overall, card payments remain the preferred way to pay online. Visa is the leading card scheme in MENA accounting for 37.1% of eCommerce transactions in the region. 

North America

Despite showing indications of saturation, the eCommerce market volume of North America is projected to exceed US$1.5 trillion by 2025. 81% of consumers used a BNPL payment option to shop online and in-store in 2021. 


In 2021, nearly six out of ten online purchases (59%) in LATAM were completed with a mobile device. Debit cards are the payment method with the highest forecasted CAGR through 2023, surpassing credit cards and bank transfers.
